Do you fear getting a spray tan?  Here is what you should expect from your spray tan session

6/29/2015

Spray tan technicians are not naive to countless spray tan disasters that have turned normal people into oompa loompas.

It's safe to say that the majority of these people have never tanned again after the humiliation of turning orange.  The fact is that spray tan solution has changed over time and most experienced spray tan technicians use quality solutions with quality ingredients that will develop into a bronze and not orange.

If you still fear getting a spray tan then here are some tips to help ease your fear and convince you that if you take the proper steps and visit with an experience professional, you'll be very happy with the results.

#1.  Find a mobile spray tan service or salon that has a good reputation and reviews

The best way to eliminate your fears are to visit with an experience spray tan artist and ask questions.  Whether it's through a referral or online reviews you'll want to do your research to find the best spray tan in your area.  Most spray tan services will show before and after spray tan results to give you an idea of the color you could receive from their spray tan solutions.  No spray tan is the same and every client will have numerous factors such as pH levels and pre-spray tan preparation that will determine the result of a spray tan.  A reputable spray tanning service should provide you with pre and post spray tan instructions which you must follow to get the best results.

#2.  Don't be scared of shedding your clothes

Every client has different expectations when it comes to spray tanning.  Some people prefer to eliminate the possibility of tan lines and spray tan their entire body.  Some people don't mind the tan lines and prefer to leave a bikini or swim suit on while getting a spray tan.  It's a matter of comfort level.  If you are scared of shedding your clothes but don't want tan lines then you must remember that spray tan technicians have seen it all!  We concentrate on contouring the spray tan to your body and are more concerned about providing the best spray tan and service then the look of your body.  Most experienced spray tan techs will make you feel comfortable and welcome.  In other words, we don't care what your body looks like we just want you to brag to all of your friends about your flawless spray tan.

#3.  Talk to your spray tan artist about your desired shade

Most spray tan artists will consult with you on your desired shade.  Some people like a natural looking tan while others like to go really dark like they just got back from a week in the Bahamas.  Every client has different expectations and every person's skin reacts differently to the spray tan solution.  The key is to discuss this with your spray tan technician on your expectations and his or her opinion on what will look best.  An experienced spray tan tech will not let you go super dark if you have pale skin and never tanned before.  You have to be realistic in your quest for the best spray tan.

#4.  If you have a wedding or big event then make sure you get a trial spray tan

If you are getting married or have a big event and have never spray tanned then you should schedule a trial session.  This will make the spray tan tech more familiar with your expectations and it gives you both an opportunity to see how your skin reacts to the spray tan.  A good technician will always error on the side of caution and understand you can always go darker the second time around.  It's never a good idea to go dark with the first session.  A trial session will familiarize you with the process and help calm your nerves when you go to get your spray tan before the big event.

Once you find a good spray tan service then you will be confident that you will never turn orange and turn heads for all the wrong reasons.  Make sure you prepare for your spray tan and you should have nothing to worry about!

5 Makeup Tips to Compliment your Airbrush Tan

5/27/2015

5 Makeup tips to compliment your airbrush tan
An airbrush tan compliments your skin and body in numerous ways and it makes you feel extremely confident in your skin.  In order to enhance your new look you will need to make a few makeup adjustments to better compliment the glow of your skin.

Here are 5 makeup tips that will help you enhance your look:

Foundation

You may want to use a lightweight powder foundation and avoid the heavy liquid foundation.  It may be helpful to have two or three different shades to use as your spray tan develops and begins to fade. The beauty of a spray tan is that it provides a summer glow so you may find that you don't need to use a foundation at all.

Illuminating Cream

Lightly apply illuminating cream to the places where the sun would hit your face.  This includes your cheekbones, brow bones, and your nose.

Bronzer

It's always a good idea to keep bronzer on hand even after your spray tan.  Bronzer will help blend certain areas that may be lighter than other parts of your body and it will also provide depth.  We like the Norvell Sunless Mist to use in a pinch and to touch up your spray tan throughout the week.  Plus, the small bottle is easy to transport or throw in your bag.

Eye Shadow

You will want to avoid using dark eye shadow after your airbrush tan.  A dark color will make your face look too overdone and heavy.  Opt for a lighter, pale, nude or neutral color to provide a fresh, natural look.

Lips

The same concept with eyes applies to the lips as well.  A lighter color will just enhance your airbrush tan and won't detract from it.  Nude or peach lips create a beautiful look that blends with a tan complexion.

These are just 5 simple makeup tips that will compliment your tan and provide a natural appearance and make you look your best when rocking your spray tan!

3 Common airbrush tan blunders and how to fix them

4/27/2015

Messing up your airbrush tan is a fear many of us have before a big event or wedding.  Streaks occur every now and again and sometimes they even show up on the most visible areas of your body...your face!

Whether it's a spray tan streak on your face or hands or even if spray tan solution rubs off on your clothes, we have a fix for these common disasters.

Stained hands from spray tan solution

This is one of the most common spray tan blunders.  You wake up the next day and see the inside of your palms have turned brown.  Typically, a barrier cream will be applied to your hands to prevent this from happening but in the event it does happen there is no need to panic because listed below are household items that will remedy the situation:

  • Lemon juice and salt or sugar: mix these ingredients into a bowl and you have a home made scrub.  Be sure to carefully apply to only the areas that need to be lightened since it could affect other areas that you want to remain tan.
  • Hydrogen peroxide - this is a common household item that many people have in their medicine cabinets.  It has been used to lighten hair (so I'm told) but it can also be used to remove a spray tan stain.  Rub some hydrogen peroxide on the affected areas and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.  Then take a wash cloth or loofah and scrub the area.  Be very careful that you are using this only on the area of concern.  If you are too liberal with it you will remove the spray tan from surrounding areas.
  • Tan remover (you can purchase tan remover product in most stores)
  • Acetone or nail polish remover - another household item for most ladies.  Apply the nail polish remover to a cotton ball and wipe the affected area
  • Heavy duty hand soap.  If your husband has some mechanics soap around the house to remove grease stains from his hands, you will find that a product such as Orange Goop will work as well.  Most of these products have little exfoliater balls in the soap that aid in exfoliating the area.
  • Pumice bar - use a pumice bar such as Mr. Pumice.  You can use it wet or dry but a dry pumice bar may work better for our purpose but be careful because it could irritate your skin if you rub too hard.

Streaks on your face

This can be a shocker when you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror!  Whether you tend to drool in your sleep or you slept with your hand on your forehead, a streak on your face will tend to blend after your first rinse.  In the event the spray tan doesn't blend, we recommend using some self tanner to blend in the light spots with the darker spots.  You can also purchase products such as Norvell Sunless Mist which will be perfect for touching up those troubled areas.

Airbrush tan solution on your clothes

If you airbrush tan enough then this is bound to happen at some point.  The key is to never wear your expensive or dressy clothes immediately after your spray tan.  Opt for loose fitting, dark colored clothes that have little value.  You always want to weight until the airbrush tan has dried before putting your clothes back on.  If you do find that your airbrush tan has rubbed off onto your clothes then you will want to hand wash them immediately with soap and warm water in an attempt to remove the stain.  Then you can put them in your washing machine for a proper wash.  Most likely the stain will come out if treated immediately but always remember to wear clothes that you wouldn't mind getting dirty.
