Q: When should I exfoliate for my spray tan?
A: We recommend exfoliating 48 hours before your spray tan appointment. This will rid your body of dead skins and give your skin time to generate fresh, new skin cells for the spray tan solution to adhere to properly. If the exfoliation is done too close to the appointment time than your skin may still be irritated from the exfoliation and it can cause a blotchy appearance when the spray tan solution is applied. You also risk the spray tan solution not sticking to your skin and producing results you will not be happy with after it processes. If you follow all the steps we provide and properly exfoliate using a product such as our Norvell Renewing Sunless Exfoliator and/or our Norvell pH Balancing Shower Cleanser then you should love the results.

Q: How long will my spray tan last?
A: Each spray tan is different since each client's skin and pH balance is different. There are several factors that will determine how long it lasts and the most important is that you exfoliate the night before your spray tan. Once the solution is applied you will want to care for it with the instructions we provide and stay hydrated and moisturize multiple times a day.
The age of the skin also plays a role; younger skin exfoliates at a slower rate. Every person has different pH levels so proper exfoliation the day before your tan will definitely help the application process leading to better results.
Keys to determining:
1) Is the person hydrated internally, do they drink enough water throughout the day consistently.
2) Did they exfoliate properly the day before the spray tan?
3) Do they moisturize properly with quality products?
A good standard answer is it lasts 7-9 days on healthy, well-maintained skin. Read our top 5 tips on how to make your spray tan last.

Q: Will my spray tan turn orange?
A: A quality product applied properly should not turn you orange! An orange undertone is something that has lingered over self-tanning since the 1960’s. DHA is much more refined and gives off a much better color than in years past. Orange comes mostly from lesser quality DHA which you may find in spray tan booths, most notably Mystic tan. We'll consult with each client to determine the right blend of solution which should produce a healthy sun kissed glow.

Q: Does the spray tan solution have a bad odor?
A: A quality product will have a much better odor or no odor at all. Our organic products will have less of a smell (if any) and our non-organic and instant tan products will have a fruit or floral scent, of course smell is very subjective when dealing with a diverse group of people.

Q: Does your spray tan solution have a sunscreen or prevent a sunburn?
A: No! Just because you look extremely tan does not mean you are protected. Our organic spray tan solution does not include SPF (Sun Protection Factor). You can sunburn if you do not apply sunscreen over your UV Free Tan and only apply sunscreen after your post tan shower. Any time you step out into the sun you should apply sunscreen!

Q: Should I moisturize my skin before or after I get a spray tan?
A: You should never apply moisturizer to your skin before getting a spray tan. This could impede the penetration of the solution into the skin. After your spray tan and your first rinse, you should apply moisturizer to your skin at least twice per day with a high quality lotion. This will slow the exfoliation rate extending the life of your tan and allow your tan to wear more evenly. A product we recommend is Norvell Sunless Tan Extender. This product not only keeps your skin moisturized but it will extend the life of your sunless tan with help from bronzers.

Q: Will the spray tan rub off on my clothes or bed sheets?
A: There is a chance of the cosmetic bronzers (color guard) rubbing off on clothing and bed sheets. This is normal and should wash out very easily with soap and water. This is why we always recommend that the client wear dark colored loose fitting clothes. There are some fabrics such as silk, nylon and especially leather that this may not wash out of, so caution is always recommended. We do offer a clear solution with no cosmetic bronzers if this is a concern and is also great for our clients with acne prone skin or for brides.

Q: Why did the spray tan solution wash off in the shower?
A: Cosmetic bronzers are temporary bronzers that give you immediate color. The real color is the result of the DHA reacting with the proteins in you skin. The real color develops behind the cosmetic bronzers in 24 hours. You will see the color guide wash off in the shower but don't be alarmed, this is normal.

Q: Will the spray tan solution discolor my hair?
A: We supply disposable hair caps; this is mostly to get the hair out of the way while spraying. You can also wear a hair tie to hold up your hair but we will spray carefully around your neck area to avoid spraying your hair. However, the tanning solution will not penetrate the hair follicle and therefore will not discolor hair.

Q: Can I workout after getting a spray tan?
A: You must give the DHA time to react with the skin before disturbing the application. You should wait at least 6 hours before sweating, if not more. We typically recommend 24 hours before exercise. There have been cases where excessive sweat has caused a green tint to the skin. This will wash away but we always recommend waiting until the next day or after you have showered to resume workouts.
